Schoolabe Science, practical experiments that run in a browser

Plenty of students read about a practical without ever getting to run it. We wanted the experiment one tab away.

Schoolabe Science home listing Class 12 chemistry practicals, including titration of KMnO4 with oxalic acid and salt analysis.

The problem

A chemistry practical is a sequence: aim, apparatus, numbered steps, then viva. A long PDF makes that sequence hard to rehearse on a phone the night before lab.

Reading about a titration is not the same as clicking through the order of steps. The school bench is the wrong moment to meet the page for the first time.

What we built

Schoolabe Science list of Class 12 practicals: KMnO4 titrations, preparation of Mohr's salt, potash alum, and salt analysis.

science.schoolabe.com is a static site for CBSE Class 11 and Class 12 chemistry practicals. Class 12 opens with titrations, preparations, and salt analysis. Class 11 opens with techniques such as preparing a molar solution, periodic trends, and enthalpy of neutralisation.

There is no sign-up wall. The site says it is free, and that no account is required to open a practical.

The first screen is the practical you have this week, with Class 11 and Class 12 kept apart.
Practical page for titration of KMnO4 with oxalic acid, showing aim, apparatus, numbered procedure, and viva questions.

Each practical collects aim, apparatus, chemicals, theory, numbered procedure, precautions, and viva questions. Interactive labs are for rehearsing the order of steps and the end point before anyone handles reagents.

The site does not invent titres or observation tables. You record what you measured, and you take quantities from the laboratory manual. It also says not to do the experiments at home.

The page uses the same parts a practical record uses, so rehearsal matches the write-up.

Hard parts

A school computer should not upload a student's name.

There is no account and no API. The practical file, including a name, class, school, or roll number if someone types one, stays in the browser. Refresh, and it is gone. Viva scores stay on the open page and are not sent to a server. The site says this version does not send usage data.

That rules out a backend. Schoolabe Science is not a FastAPI project, and it is not listed as one anywhere on this site.

The page cannot pretend to be the lab.

Students ask if these are exactly the practicals on their school list, and if they can do the experiment at home. The answers on the site are narrow on purpose. The topics are CBSE Class 11 and 12 chemistry. The school's schedule is the list that counts. Hands-on work happens with a teacher and the lab's safety rules.

A study site that hands out fake readings would be worse than no site. The practical file is blank until the student writes a real measurement.

Result

Schoolabe Science is live at science.schoolabe.com. It is free to open, with no account.

The coding lessons are a different site, schoolabe.com, started in 2024. They are not this case study, and they are not a backend.
